About Nxabega Okavango

Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp is an intimate camp, offering the height of sophistication and style within the heart of the Okavango Delta. Each of the nine tented suites are raised on platforms and are spread out from the main lodge ensuring privacy. Each suite has a private viewing deck, has en-suite facilities, ceiling fans and are beautifully furnished. The main lodge area is a magnificent elevated building constructed in local timber, reed and thatch with sweeping views. The dining room, sitting room and expansive decks all look out over the Okavango Delta and there is an outside dining room for those warm nights. A swimming pool gives guests a chance to keep cool in the summer days.

Guests can expect to see buffalo, lion prides, cheetah and leopard at Nxabega Okavango Camp. Herds of red lechwe favour the edges of floodplains, often feeding in the company of tsessebe. Hippos reside in deeper channels and lagoons. Honey badgers are observed during daylight hours. Roan and sable antelope favour taller grass in open woodlands while the sitatunga keep to dense papyrus beds. Families of dwarf and banded mongoose occupy large termite mounds. Noisy epaulette fruit bats sip nectar from baobab and sausage tree blooms and feast on ripe figs. The bird life at Nxabega is prolific and almost 350 species have been recorded.

Activities at Nxabega Okavango Camp

The area around Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp has five distinct habitats which support an incredible diversity of wildlife including, large herds of elephant, endangered African wild dog, resident rare Pel’s fishing owls, semi-aquatic red lechwe antelope as well as exceptional bird and plant life, including impressive baobab, leadwood and sausage trees. Mokoro rides take guests through the maze of waterways, rivers and shallow lagoons in the Delta, searching in silence for the game that live in and around the water. There are also motorised boat trips which take guests further away to explore the larger channels.

Early morning and late afternoon/evening game drives are conducted in open 4×4 game vehicles. With the use of a powerful spotlight, the night drives allow guests to spot the elusive night animals. There are also helicopter tours that showcase the Delta from the air, a completely different perspective.
